Estelle Byrne, Elklan tutor, continues her blog on her experience delivering modified Elklan training in a voluntary capacity in Kazakhstan:
The staff and parents sessions have started in earnest, and both groups are beginning to volunteer more answers, which is good. The interpreter has to work fairly hard, sending everything both ways between them and me! Russian words all seem very long and the sentences seem 2 or 3 times as long as ours! I'm experiencing first hand what it's like to have a communication difficulty as I hear and repeat new words but can't seem to remember them because often they bear no resemblance to any words I know!
Add to that the fact that the written words are like hieroglyphics, so I find myself staring at a word like лимон taking ages to work out that it actually says "lemon"! Talk about slow processing!
This jigsaw box made me chuckle!!!
