As we know the reformed Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, became effective in September 2012. it puts a strong focus on Communication and Language as one of “three prime areas of learning most essential for children’s readiness for future learning and healthy development.” (Department of Education, 2012). Within the framework, it states that: “Practitioners working with the youngest children are expected to focus strongly on the three prime areas, which are the basis for successful learning in the other four specific areas.” (Statutory Framework for the EYFS, p.6, 1.7) and “Communication and language development involves giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.” (Statutory Framework for the EYFS, p.5, 1.6)
One of Elkan's Tutors, Deborah Fielden who is an early years professional has looked closely at the new guidelines. She has then tied in all the aspects of the course to show how it supports it. Her conclusion is:
'Elklan’s course entitled “Speech and Language Support for Under 5s” equips early years practitioners with the detailed knowledge and skills – and the confidence to apply that knowledge and skills in their setting – to ensure that their practice and procedures exceed the requirements and standards needed to ensure high quality provision for children’s communication and language development'.
