How challenging for Post 16s establishments to be faced with the demands of the new Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) code of practice which will be law by September 2014. As from 1st September they will be expected to provide their students with SEND in the same way that pre-schools and Early Years have been dong for many years. This is good news for all but challenging none the less.

For those working with students with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) then we have good news for you! Elklan has written an accredited training programme to enable FE tutors and specialist teachers to train others in their establishment. The course will support all staff to understand the communication difficulties some students can face and gives practical strategies to help. Accredited at level 2 or 3 this course has national recognition which is useful for the learner and the employer alike. It is designed to be run over 8 x 2 hour sessions but delivery can be flexible to meet the requiremnts of the educational provision.

The course covers:

  1. What is Communication
  2. Understand the message
  3. Developing memory skills
  4. Understand the langauge
  5. Understand the question
  6. Understand the question
  7. the task of talking
  8. Challenges and changes
